Killingly Grange News for November

By Glenna Bruno

  NOVEMBER 1, 2013 --

On Sept. 14 Killingly Grange had a table at Davis Park in Danielson.  We gave out information and pamphlets about the Grange.  We also had a table with various vegetables, macaroni, etc. to make a “Tomato Head.”  That proved to be a good draw for children and parents.  A beautiful sign about our Agricultural Fair and Craft Market the following week was displayed.  After the Grange Agric. Fair, in the evening, we held a chicken dinner- a “Healthy Harvest Dinner”- all produce obtained from the local farmers and markets.

We are now on Facebook thanks to our incoming Master Bernadette Schuster.

Our new handbooks are out- hope all new members will have one, so they know when Killingly Grange meets and other activities are coming up.

Killingly Grange #112 entertained Pomona on Oct. 5th with potluck and a movie.  Lots and lots of different food.  Decent turn out and an enjoyable movie.

Incoming Master Bernadette Schuster and Steve planted tomato and pepper plants in back of the Grange, which are producing.  Good job!

We have four new members joining us of late-- all workers!

The Tomato Family Saga-- One evening a nice lady returned to her car after dinner at a local restaurant.  There to her surprise were a few tomatoes on the ground.

Another nice lady came by and picked them up after the first nice lady exclaimed, “Don’t step on the tomatoes.”

Another surprise!  Second nice lady came and put them in the other nice lady’s car.

What to do?  What to do?  The nice lady in the car took them home.

She arranged the tomato family on a plate and took their picture- the papa tomato, the mama tomato and the five little tomatoes.

Now this tomato family doesn’t know it but their photo is going to be entered into the Grange Fair in hopes of a prize.  But sad to say they will have to be eaten sooner rather than later.  Meanwhile the nice lady will enjoy them.

So farmers on your way to market- be careful, your tomatoes don’t jump out of your basket to become a “Family” or someone’s snack, or just get lost i a parking lot.
