| JULY 26, 2003 -- A weekend full of events, entertainers, and rides began Friday, as the Connecticut Agricultural Fair hosts its 36th annual event at the fairgrounds in Goshen.
According to Connecticut Agricultural Fair President Jody Cameron, visitors to the fair will find all new entertainers, shows, food vendors, and sponsors this year.
Nashville artist Kevin Denney is scheduled to play today at 5:30 and 8:30 p.m., and Craig Morgan, top ten country music hit artist of "Almost Home," will play Sunday at 2 and 5:15 p.m.
"We're especially honored this year to announce a new partnership with the Connecticut Farmland Trust," Cameron said. "Director Gordon Gibson will open the fair at 10 a.m. on Friday."
According to Cameron, the Connecticut State Grange was instrumental in the newly formed partnership.
"It is only appropriate that we should be aiding the farmland trust seeing that we are an agricultural fair," Cameron said.
According to Cameron, this year's slogan for the fair is "where families come together."
"We offer a peace of Americana," Cameron said.
Last year's attendance was just over 30,000 visitors for the three day event. According to Cameron, this year's goal is to exceed 35,000.
"We strive to create a package of vendor's, entertainers, and attractions to catch the attention in everyone," Cameron said.
The Connecticut State Grange Committee on Women's Activities will also support a food drive at the fair this year to benefit the friendly Hands Food Bank in Torrington.
"We're asking everyone who see the need to bring a non-perishable food item to benefit the food bank," Cameron said. "Some of us are blessed, others are not, and we can't afford to forget that."
All the horse, car, and BMX shows, animals, events, rides, and food will keep everyone busy amongst a host of scheduled entertainers. Also new this year, the Naugatuck Lion's Club will also hold a Chicken BBQ with two seated events each day.
According to Cameron, an interesting new food attraction this year is a product called Dip and Dots - a blast frozen ice cream.
Admission is $6 for adults, children 12 and under are free, and hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday.
