• a deaf person not knowing when a family member is in trouble and calling for help.
• a child with autism bolting and running into a busy street
• someone (child or adult) who has been abused being interviewed by investigators or court room advocates
• a special needs teacher with a room of children with disabilities and challenges
• a veteran with post-traumatic stress disorder
• someone who has had a stroke or serious injury and needs to endure painful rehabilitation
• someone with depression not wanting to live anymore.
These are all real life situations that happen countless times every day. They involve frustration, pain, danger, and sometimes even loss of life.
Dogs for the Deaf now trains more than Hearing Dogs.
We also train dogs for children with autism, professionals who work with people with disabilities, and people with depression, panic/anxiety attacks, post-traumatic stress disorder, stroke, etc.
At DFD, our work and mission are to help alleviate these dangers and frustrations by placing professionally trained dogs with people with various disabilities and challenges.
The dogs are rescued from shelters, specially trained, and placed with applicants all across the U.S. free of charge.
We could not do this special work without the support and help of Grange Members from all over the country.
Local Granges and Grange members have been supporting DFD for over 30 years, and we hope that this help will continue.
I have attended the National Grange Convention every year for many years and enjoy meeting you.
I will be in Tulsa in November and look forward to seeing lots of old friends and making new friends, too.
We will be doing a presentation showing how the dogs are trained to help people, and we will have a booth with information and a chance to visit.
Please try to attend our presentation or at least stop by the booth.
In addition to financial support, we encourage you to tell others about DFD. Tell them what we do and encourage them to become part of our DFD family.
Also, if you know someone who might benefit from a dog, encourage them to find out more and apply for a specially trained dog.
We want to be able to rescue more dogs and help more people — you can help us help them.
