| JANUARY 3, 2012 -- Wow! It’s 2012. It doesn’t seem possible. Let’s make this year a special one for our Granges.
Along this line let’s take a look at our winning Essay from last year…
“The Grange Then and Now”

In the past, you went to Grange because it was where the social life in town occurred: dinner, dances, and entertaining programs galore. There was no problem finding people to do Grange work.
Nowadays, with all the competition, we must find a way to be relevant. Use of technology will keep us modern. Networking with other groups will help us serve our communities. No one else offers what we do: a little tradition, friendship, service—much of the old with a new twist.
Some change, but much the same—we need to operate differently to stay relevant!

Think about these words and let’s formulate a plan of action for our Granges.
I have had some questions about the “A Number” Contest for this year. This should be any number about something that happened in your hall, or meeting place, that is memorable or something that you can visualize happening in the future. It has nothing to do with the card company. Skits, recitations, tableaus, musical numbers and anything else you can think of that is appropriate for a Grange program qualifies. You are just marking a moment in time in your hall. Good luck.
Winter can be long and dreary especially for shut-ins and those in convalescent homes. Now would be a good time to start on your Auld Acquaintance project if you haven’t already done so. How about some favors to brighten up their tables/trays. Have some talent? Most homes would love a short show for their residents. If there is only one or two of you, why not sit and visit or write letters for those who are unable to do so. Remember, this should be done in the name of your Grange. We do so much good in our communities, we need to start taking credit for our good works.
