From The Lecturer's Desk
Still time to enter contests

By Marge Bernhardt, CT State Grange Lecturer

  AUGUST 3, 2012 --

I hope summer is treating everyone well.  This year we are definitely having those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer.  We took 10 days off and went to Virginia.  When they forecast temperatures over 100 degrees for days on end, we decided to spend extra time in the air conditioning.  Still it was nice to get away.  Hope you have plans to get away for a while too!

If you are already back from your summer excursions, why not write an essay for our contest.  This years’ title is “How I Would Change Our Grange.” It should be 150 words or less and I need it by October 1st so we don’t rush our judges.  If you have ever judged one of the contests you are aware of what a hard job it can be.  I still say, if I got three sets of judges for the contests, we could end up with three different winners in each contest.

There is still to write a letter to a solder.  If you don’t have an address you can get them to me and I will see that they make their way to a soldier, sailor, marine or airmen fighting to keep our country free.  Many Granges report sending packages on a regular basis.  This is not a requirement but makes a great community service project.  If you do send a box, please be sure and send a letter in it.  Remember you do not have to be a Lecturer to do these projects.

Lecturers – you should have received your packet with next years’ materials by this time.  If you haven’t, please let me know and I will track it down for you.

See you around the State.
