May News from Ekonk Community Junior Grange

By Rebecca Gervais

  MAY 6, 2013 --

At our April meeting, Sister Kay Ruff inspected us.  Always nice to see her.  We also gained 4 new members, WELCOME to Jacob Bessette, Casey and Patrick Ferns, and Brianna Gervais!  Brianna was excited to, finally, be old enough to join, and to join with friends was even more special.  We had 18 Junior members present, and a total count of 36.  A fun night, ending with Birthday cakes for 3 of us.

As of this writing, we planned on going on a hike in April with the youth, and taking part in a river clean-up with them.  Should be a fun month.

In March, 27 of us went to Mik-Ran’s sugar house, in Brooklyn.  Yum-yum.  What a great smell the boiling sap makes.  We learned a lot about maple syrup making. Perfect way to give us an appetite for the supper waiting for us back at the hall.  43 of us feasted on pancakes, french toast, bacon, sausage, hash browns and REAL maple syrup.  A HUGE thanks to Russell and Sue Gray, Jim and Verna Cole, and Jack and Patty Cottrell who prepared this feast!

In March, we also visited a Convalescent home.  Three of us dressed up as Easter bunnies.  One of their caregivers led us around, pointing out who could receive the chocolates we brought. We were happy to see Carol Orr.  Always nice to visit, and spread happiness.

In May, we have our annual Mother’s Day Plant sale.  Profits always go to local children’s charities.  Drop in for a plant for Mom, or veggies for the garden.  Have a happy spring, and remember, we always welcome those who would like to visit!
