From The Historian's Desk
The Youth Committee of 1954

By Edith Schoell, State Historian

MARCH 2007 -- At the 1954 Annual Session of the Connecticut State Grange, the State Youth Committee gave their first report.  The Committee consisted of Charles Coe, Chairman, Doris Sibley, Muriel Dumas and Betty Grant.  Alma Brooks was the Adult Advisor.

Regional meetings were held to outline and discuss plans for the year’s work.

Some of the accomplishments listed were:  sending Easter gifts to servicemen, co-sponsoring a Square Dance Jamboree with approximately 1,000 in attendance, sponsoring a four-Grnage softball league, aided in cleaning and painting Grange halls, and numerous other activities.

They welcomed to Connecticut Miss Elisbet Kurtz, a Grange Exchange Student from Germany, who resided at the home of Brother and Sister Tanner of Wichita Grange.  Miss Kurtz went to the New England Lecturer’s Conference and took part in the program.
