| OCTOBER 7, 2014 -- The CT State Grange Youth and Juniors Committees are sponsoring a trip as part of this year's State Session. On Saturday, October 18th, they will be going to Dinosaur State Park, from 9:00-11:30 AM (meeting at Hotel at 8:45 and returning by noon).
The Connecticut Valley has a long history of fossil track discoveries. Outstanding specimens uncovered in 19th century brownstone quarries found their way into museums throughout the world. A new chapter in the history of such discoveries was written in 1966 when hundreds of tracks were exposed in Rocky Hill. This remarkable site became Dinosaur State Park.
Once at the park, participants will be able to visit the Exhibit Center, explore the Nature Trails, and participate in a group project of casting a dinosaur track.
For those interested, you can also EarthCache at Dinosaur State Park. An Earth Cache is a place where you find an interesting geologic feature or process that will enrich your outdoor experience.
Also for an additional fee, participants can sluice at the outdoor mine for gems and fossils. Purchase bags of mining rough from the bookshop ($5.50-9.00 per bag).
