From The Lecturer's Desk
From the Lecturer's Desk: Please remember our shut-ins

By Marge Bernhardt, CT State Grange Lecturer

  DECEMBER 5, 2014 --

As we enter the holiday season let’s not forget those in convalescent and rest homes.  While our Should Auld Acquaintance Program is intended to be a year-round project, why not start now?  Check with the Recreation Director of a local home and see what their needs are.  They may want entertainment for their residents – most Granges have Christmas Programs at their meetings.  Bring one of those to entertain at the home.  How about small tray or table favors.  You can all get together one night and make some simple ones.  These work nights will also bond our Grangers together and help make some new friendships.  Does the home need someone to help residents address their cards?  Maybe they even need you to supply the cards that the residents can give their relatives and friends when they come to visit.  The cost would be minimal but the appreciation of those you help is very gratifying.  After you have made a few visits these people consider you their friend.  There is nothing more rewarding than walking into a home like this and to have the residents come and thank you over and over again and tell you how great you and the Grange are.  Bring a little sunshine into the lives of those who need it most.  Isn’t this what the holidays are all about?

Merry Christmas and a Happy, Healthy New Year to all our Grange Friends everywhere.
