| NOVEMBER 6, 2015 -- MY FAVORITE SPOT IN CONNECTICUT

My Favorite Spot In Connecticut is my front porch. When I get time off I enjoy our porch. When it’s nice out I have my ice coffee, sometimes lunch, or a snack out there. I visit with family and friends on our porch. It’s not very big, but I just add a chair or two or people sit on the steps. The neighbors come
by with their kids and a little dog. The kids come up and say hello and look at the cats in the window and watch the pinwheels in the flower pots go around. Halloween I have a party on the porch. Our old neighbor comes with her dog and we dress up. We have junk food, play weird music and give out candy. The kids and grown-ups seem to enjoy it. Sometimes it rains, snows, or it’s hot, but it is still my favorite spot.

Above is the First Place Winner in our Essay Contest. Surprisingly most of the entries were on our homes and yards. This contest will continue next year. All you do is write 150 words or less on “My Favorite Spot In Connecticut”.
The other winners in this contest were 2nd Place, Sue Gray of Ekonk Grange who wrote about her farm home kitchen and 3rd Philip Rowland of Oxford Grange who told a story about his own back yard. All three winning entries will be in the next Lecturers’ Newsletter.
Winners in the Complete Program Contest were 1st Susan Pianka of North Stonington Grange, 2nd Clifford Gervais of Ekonk Grange, and, 3rd Emily Alexander of North Haven Grange. These programs will be posted on the State Grange Website.
Honor Lecturer Awards went to the Lecturers of Cheshire, North Haven and Lyme Granges.
Lecturer Appreciation Awards went to 19 Granges. Nine Granges were recognized for their participation in our Should Auld Acquaintance Program, and nine for their participation in “A Word From Home”.
It is the beginning of a new year. Now is the time to get started on these projects for 2016. A complete list of projects and contests for Lecturers and their Granges will be send with the next newsletter.
It was nice to see so many of you at State Session and I hope to see you around the State in the near future. |
