I recently read a wonderful article on what it is to be a Granger. To sum up in a few words it means to be active, stay the course, and commitment. To be active means to participate in all activities as much as you are able. Go to regular meetings, participate when you are there, help whenever you can. Don’t like the weather? Don’t think the program will be interesting? Don’t like someone in your group? It’s the night for your favorite TV program? Whatever the reason for staying home, its not a reason, its an excuse. Do you call the President and say you’re not coming or let the meeting go on waiting for you to show. I guess you would say I’m preachy and I won’t disagree. When a Grange plans a picnic and counts on many coming and only the few faithful show up, it’s disappointing. When not enough show up to make a quorum, that’s embarrassing. If you no longer drive at night, call someone and get a ride. If the meeting will be on zoom, join in. Don’t be a Granger in name only. If this article gets published you can lash back. We did have fun making s’mores and putting hot dogs in the roll. Nancy and Dawn were the best.
